Physiotherapy Frequently Asked Questions
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. This means treating anything that affects the nerves, bones, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues in the body).
What does a Physiotherapist do?
A physiotherapist will evaluate, diagnose, and treat many musculoskeletal injuries and problems. They use various treatment techniques. Techniques include manual therapy, joint manipulations, strength training, shockwave therapy, acupuncture, and self-care advice.
Physiotherapists are fully qualified to offer a full diagnosis of your condition. They then develop a plan for treatment, working with you to achieve your goals.
Are Physios doctors?
No, but they are fully qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat many musculoskeletal conditions. Physios are your first contact for issues with bones, nerves, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues.
What to wear to a Physio appointment?
The physiotherapist will need to access the area you are seeking treatment for so please wear loose comfortable clothing. For example a vest top for ladies with neck or shoulder issues, and shorts for knee and hip issues.
How long is a Physio appointment?
An initial assessment will take approximately 45 minutes and a follow up appointment takes 30 minutes.
Can I self refer for Physio?
Yes, as our therapists are able to diagnose a wide range of conditions so we are able to be your first contact. Please note some insurers such as Westfield ask you to see your GP prior to attending physiotherapy. Please check your individual policies.
How much does a Physio cost?
Our physiotherapy sessions are £50 for initial and follow up sessions.
Should I see a private physiotherapist?
There are certain benefits of seeing a private physiotherapist including the following:
- No long waiting lists
- Appointments within 24 hours
- Availability of evening appointments
- More hands on treatment, to ensure faster relief from pain
- Longer appointment times, so you get more treatments in each session
