How Treatment Works

Neurological physiotherapy takes a holistic, hands-on approach. Your treatment may include:

We use manual techniques to improve joint mobility, muscle tone, and movement patterns. This may involve:

  • Facilitated movement to help retrain functional tasks
  • Soft tissue work and stretching
  • Postural positioning to support better alignment and reduce stiffness

Movement-based therapy plays a central role in neurological rehabilitation. We’ll guide you through exercises that are carefully chosen to support:

  • Balance and coordination
  • Core stability and limb strength
  • Gait (walking) training and mobility
  • Repetition and task-specific activities to support neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to adapt and change)

We know that progress doesn’t stop when you leave the clinic. To help you get the best results, we’ll provide:

  • A structured home exercise plan
  • Advice on managing symptoms day-to-day
  • Guidance on posture, positioning, and safe movement
  • Recommendations for any equipment or adaptations that could support your independence

Living with a neurological condition can be challenging, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. At Parker & Jones, we’re committed to helping you build strength, confidence, and control—whether you’re recovering from an acute event like a stroke or managing a condition such as MS or Parkinson’s.

If you or a loved one could benefit from neurological physiotherapy, we’d be happy to talk through your options.

Neurological Physiotherapy – Frequently Asked Questions

What is neurological physiotherapy?

Neurological physiotherapy is a specialised area of physiotherapy focused on helping people who have conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nerves. These conditions can impact movement, coordination, balance, and independence. Treatment is designed to support recovery, improve function, and enhance quality of life.

We regularly support clients with a wide range of neurological conditions, including:

  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Motor neurone disease (MND)
  • Peripheral neuropathies
  • Functional neurological disorders (FND)

If you’re not sure whether neurological physiotherapy is right for you, we’re always happy to chat through your situation.

While traditional physiotherapy often focuses on muscles, joints, and injuries, neurological physiotherapy takes a more specialised approach. It works with how the nervous system communicates with the body and helps retrain movement, posture, and balance through targeted, repetitive activity—often using principles of neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to adapt and rewire itself).

Your first session will involve a detailed assessment. We’ll:

  • Talk through your medical history, current symptoms, and goals
  • Assess how you move—looking at things like balance, coordination, walking, and strength
  • Begin some gentle treatment or movement work
  • Discuss a tailored plan, including clinic sessions and advice for at home

There’s no need to prepare anything specific—just wear comfortable clothing and bring any relevant medical notes or reports.

No, Unfortunately we are unable to offer home visits at the moment. Sessions are available at our Braithwell clinic only. We have disable parking close to the clinic.
Yes—home-based exercises are often an important part of neurological rehabilitation. We’ll create a clear, manageable plan to support your progress between sessions. This may include simple movements, posture work, or stretches. We’re also on hand to adapt the plan as your needs change.
This really depends on your condition and goals. Some people benefit from a short, focused programme, while others find longer-term support more helpful. We’ll review your progress regularly and always work with you to ensure your care feels right for you.
Absolutely. While some neurological conditions are progressive, physiotherapy can still make a meaningful difference—by helping to maintain mobility, manage symptoms, reduce pain, and prevent secondary issues. We aim to improve your quality of life, whatever your diagnosis.
No referral is necessary. You’re welcome to contact us directly to book an appointment or ask any questions. If you have a referral letter from your GP or consultant, you’re welcome to bring it along.
Our Neurological Physiotherapy sessions are extended to 60 and 45 minutes for initial and follow-up sessions respectively. We aim to deliver as much value from our specialist sessions as possible, with our experience showing that these slightly longer sessions yield much better results for the specific conditions treated.
You can book online or call us directly to book your initial consultation. We’ll talk you through the next steps and find a time that suits you.
